Sound Effects

In my trailer I want to use some sound effects. These are the potential effects I would like to use:

  • Fire, explosions. This would be for the begging of the trailer where there are images of rioting.
  • Sounds of rioting will also be used for this scene.
  • Impact sounds in between certain shots
  • Impact sounds when taglines come up

Music Choices

This first piece of music is called X by Excision, in this video it is the beginning (0:00 - 0:15). The music is very eerie, it creates a feeling of suspense. I hope to have this at the beginning of my trailer where I am showing ordinary people being overcome and infected.

This is the music I will be using in the fast pace part of the trailer (0:20 onwards). It is a high tempo allowing me to make a montage of shots. It feels as though it is building towards something as well adding suspense and apprehension to the audience.

List of Props and Costumes

Props

  • Newspaper - read by the man at the begging to show his normality
  • Headphones - for the teen at the begging who is affected while listening to music
  • Gun - used by the antagonist to reflect threat and fear
  • Sunglasses - worn by the antagonist to show his anonymity.
  • Earpiece - used by the antagonist to show that he is being ordered by a higher power
  • Coffee pot - used in the fight scene by the protagonist to fight the antagonist with
  • Car - protagonist is held in the car captive, and the antagonist is in it in the trailer

Costumes

  • White long shirt t-shirt with jeans and trainers - represents the fact that the protagonist is just a normal guy.
  • The antagonist is wearing a suit, matching with the convnetions of thriller trailers that I researched.
  • The girl friend of the protagonist is wearing a short sleeve top and shorts which again shows how they are no different to you and me.
  • The people being infected at the begging are meant to represent normal people being infected so the man at the begging is wearing a hoody reading a newspaper, with the two younger boys wearing jumpers as well.

Riot Footage

The beginning of my trailer involves a news report showing rioting all over the world from the people being effected by the radio message.

Here are some samples that I may use in my trailer:

From these videos, I will film a selection from each video showing the how the radio message is causing riots around the world. I will not have the same sound as in these videos.

BBFC Research

To choose which rating my film should be given, I have to research the guidelines of the BBFC (the organization who give films a certificate).

'Blueprint' I will be looking for it be a 12 or a 15. For a 12, the film has to mach the guidelines:

12:
Discrimination
Discriminatory language or behaviour must not be
endorsed by the work as a whole. Aggressive
discriminatory language or behaviour is unlikely
to be acceptable unless clearly condemned.

Drugs
Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should
not be glamorised or give instructional detail.

Horror
Moderate physical and psychological threat may be
permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not
frequent or sustained.

Imitable behaviour
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and
self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be
copied, or appear pain or harm free.  Easily accessible
weapons should not be glamorised.

Language
Moderate language is allowed. The use of strong
language (for example, ‘fuck’) must be infrequent.

Nudity
Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief
and discreet.

Sex
Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed.
Sex references should not go beyond what is suitable for
young teenagers. Frequent crude references are unlikely
to be acceptable.

Theme
Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must
be suitable for young teenagers.

Violence
Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on
detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood,
but occasional gory moments may be permitted if
justified by the context.
Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and
discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual
justification.

15:
Discrimination
The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory
language or behaviour.

Drugs
Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not
promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily
accessible and highly dangerous substances (for example,
aerosols or solvents) is unlikely to be acceptable.

Horror
Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic
or sexualised.

Imitable behaviour
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and
self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be
copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Language
There may be frequent use of strong language (for example,
‘fuck’). The strongest terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be
acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated
use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.

Nudity
Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without
strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a
non-sexual or educational context.

Sex
Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail.
There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour,
but the strongest references are unlikely to be acceptable
unless justified by context. Works whose primary purpose is
sexual arousal or stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable.

Theme
No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is
appropriate for 15 year olds.

Violence
Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction
of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to
be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also
unlikely to be acceptable.
There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence
but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and
have a strong contextual justification.

I will look through the guidelines thoroughly and compare it to my production then make a decision on which I will choose.
